Google hack helps u to find what u want

Google is a pretty powerful search tool. You knew that. You can use it to find information, but you can also use it to find downloadable MP3s, books, videos, and other items. We're going to assume you're just looking for legally available downloads, but the truth of the matter is if someone's posted an MP3 (copyrighted or not) to their web page, Google can find it.

But who has the time to memorize all the search modifiers like "-inurl:(htm|html|php) intitle:"index of" +"last modified" +"parent directory" +description +size +(.mp3|.wma|.ogg) ?" That's where Google Hacks comes in. This handy little app will let you search for dozens of file types, song lyrics, cached pages, fonts, and other little goodies hanging out on the web.

Just download and install Google Hacks for Mac, Linux, or Windows, fire it up and enter your search term and check the boxes next to the type of search you want to perform. Your results will show up in your default web browser.

Yahoo!Messenger 9.0 beta out .Adds inline video support

Yahoo! has launched a public beta of Yahoo! Messenger 9. The update includes a bunch of boring but important updates like localized versions for more countries including Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines. But the big news is that you can embed videos, images, and maps in a chat window.

If you copy and paste a YouTube URL into a message, a video window will pop up. You can also add a Flickr slideshow or drag and drop images from your desktop.

The new IM client also has a redesigned contact list. When you hover over a friend, options pop up for sending an IM message, SMS text message, or starting a voice call. You can also customize the look with new skins, and you can add emoticons to your status message.

Yahoo! Messenger 9 beta is available for Windows XP and Vista. There are other versions available for Mac, Linux/Unix, mobile, or web chat.

UPDATE STAR keeps ur softwares up2date

There are plenty of ways to check to see if your software needs updating. You can manually visit the website for each program you run on a regular basis. Or if you'd rather use a method that doesn't take all day, you can install an application that will check for updates automatically.

While we like File Hippo Update Checker and AppSnap, UpdateStar might just take the blue ribbon when it comes to freeware software updaters. UpdateStar won't automatically download and install software like AppSnap, but it makes up for that deficiency by offering a huge library of programs. It catches all sorts of installed and updateable software that the other programs miss.

UpdateStar will automatically scan your PC and search for any of 8000 applications. When it detects those programs on your computer it will check to see if newer versions are available. When you click on an application you get a brief description and a link to download the newer version.

Odds are you'll still have a few applications on your PC that UpdateStar will miss, including any application that didn't have an installer file. But of the update checkers we've tried, UpdateStar appears to be the most powerful.

CD/DVD burner XP4 : freeware

Despite its name, CDBurnerXP is not just a CD burning application for Windows XP. It's actually one of the most full featured free CD and DVD burning utilities you're likely to find for Windows 2000/XP/Vista.

CDBurnerXP 4 was recently released, and it has some impressive new features:
  • Support for burning Blu-Ray, HD-DVD, and Double layer DVDs
  • Support for FLAC audio files
  • Disc to Disc copy for audio and data
  • Save discs and compilations as ISO files
  • Support for WPL playlists
While Windows XP and Vista include some basic CD and DVD authoring features, CDBurnerXP is about as full-featured as many commercial applications out there. And it's free. The program is donateware, so if you want to download the latest beta versions you'll need to make a contribution.

MS Office 2008 for MAC

Microsoft Office 2008 for the Mac, due sometime after Macworld San Francisco this winter, has been the subject of much obsession among Mac folk ever since Apple started the Intel transition, mostly because the current incarnation of Mac Office, 2004, runs like a dog on Apple's Intel machines and hasn't seen a code change in over four years. While we're satisfied that at least Microsoft is consistent (they often go 4 years between Windows Office releases, too), we were really hoping Office 2008 would've been Office 2007 (or Office 2006).

Lest we digress. There's a new gallery of Office 2008 screengrabs here. We were given an opportunity to see the new software demonstrated, and the rumors about the speed increase are very true. This thing runs circles around its predecessor on Intel hardware, and we're especially geeked about the speed and zest of Microsoft Word. Paginating a 500+ page document on our 2 gHz Macbook Pro only took about 8 seconds. The other thing that's immediately obvious about this new Office is the addition of "object insertion bars" in all the apps, allowing you quick access to objects usually dealt with in other parts of the suite--for example, rapidly inserting a chart into a Word document. Entourage still has a case of the IMAP hiccups, sadly, but its interface has been improved as well. That immobile navigation bar that clogs up the top-left corner of the 2004 version is gone, gone, gone, and we couldn't be happier. All in all, this update appears to be coming along great.

i COPY : make ur printer and scanner a Xerox machine

Don't have one of those newfangled all-in-one printer/scanner/fax/time machines? Well, if you've got a printer and a scanner hooked up to you computer, you probably know that it's not that hard to use your PC as a copy machine. Just scan an image with the one and print it with the other.

The problem is that you might wind up having to use two or three separate programs to do the scanning and copying. iCopy makes the process a lot simpler.

You can either download an installer or a zip file. For some reason the installer didn't work on our test system, but the standalone .exe file in the zip version worked perfectly. The source code is also available.

The program will find your printer and scanner, and let you create copies by pressing the big button. You can also adjust your printer/scanner settings, choose the number of copies to make, and set brightness and contrast levels.

Firefox uploader addon

Uploading files to websites can easily become a chore if you do it enough. Heavy Flickr or YouTube users probably know this feeling as much as anyone else.

If you find yourself doing a lot of uploading, why not consider making the job easier on yourself? The Firefox Universal Uploader add-on for Firefox can ease your burden when uploading files, photos or videos to Flickr, Picasa, Youtube, Box.net, Facebook, Webshots or OmniDrive. Working just like most modern FTP clients, simply navigate to the folder containing the files you'd like to upload, and bounce them across to the destination.

Google Moon

Google has added updates imagery to Google Moon allowing you to see high resolution photos of a place you're unlikely ever to visit. Aside from high res pictures, there are also photos, articles, scientific charts, and links to videos from the Apollo moon missions.

There are even Google Street View style 360 degree closeup images of selected locations, and a text search box for finding specific spots on the moon's surface.

Google's had the moon on the brain this week. The company has also announced its sponsoring the Lunar X-PRIZE contest. Teams around the world are competing for a $30 million prize. All they have to do is land a privately funded spacecraft on the moon. Of course, it costs NASA a whole lot more than $30 million to send the shuttle into space and back without even stopping at the moon. So the odds of anyone designing and flying a ship to the moon for less money than $30 million is pretty slim. But hey, the prize would help recoup some of your costs, right?

PDF addon for firefox : usefull

When you click on a web link that takes you to a PDF document, you can either download it or view it in your browser if you have the right plugin installed. But you usually have to configure your browser settings to either always download a file or always open a file.

Sure, you can open a file with Firefox and then download it, but considering how long it takes for the Adobe Reader plugin to open a file, that just seems like a waste of time.

That's where PDF Download comes in handy. This Firefox add-on gives you more control over how you handle PDF files. Want to automatically download every PDF you see? You an do that. Want to open every file using Adobe Reader? No problem. How about opening every file as an HTML document? Yup, you can do that too.

But probably the most useful option is the default view. Once you install PDF Download, every time you click a link that takes you to a PDF file, a window will pop up asking what you'd like to do with that file.

FireFox rocks ! 400 million downloads

In less than three years, Mozilla's Firefox has amassed 400 million downloads. The whole shift towards using the Firefox web browser was sparked in November 2004 by a Spread Firefox campaign in which tens of thousands of users spawned 25 million downloads. The buttons and banners placed on websites took only a year to grab 100 million downloads, and a year later 200 million.

Now, three years, an award for most recognized brand and 400 million downloads later, Firefox is helping people surf the web better, faster and with a friendlier experience. If you want to be part of the next 400 million users to download the virus and spyware free browser, you too can add some Firefox love to your blog or website.

Use Gmail as ur Drive :Shell Extension

GMail Drive is a Shell Namespace Extension that creates a virtual filesystem around your Google Gmail account, allowing you to use Gmail as a storage medium.

GMail Drive creates a virtual filesystem on top of your Google Gmail account and enables you to save and retrieve files stored on your Gmail account directly from inside Windows Explorer. GMail Drive literally adds a new drive to your computer under the My Computer folder, where you can create new folders, copy and drag'n'drop files to.

Ever since Google started to offer users a Gmail e-mail account, which includes storage space of 2000 megabytes, you have had plenty of storage space but not a lot to fill it up with. With GMail Drive you can easily copy files to your Gmail account and retrieve them again.
When you create a new file using GMail Drive, it generates an e-mail and posts it to your account. The e-mail appears in your normal Inbox folder, and the file is attached as an e-mail attachment. GMail Drive periodically checks your mail account (using the Gmail search function) to see if new files have arrived and to rebuild the directory structures. But basically GMail Drive acts as any other hard-drive installed on your computer.
You can copy files to and from the GMail Drive folder simply by using drag'n'drop like you're used to with the normal Explorer folders.

Because the Gmail files will clutter up your Inbox folder, you may wish to create a filter in Gmail to automatically move the files (prefixed with the GMAILFS letters in the subject) to your archived mail folder.

Please note that GMail Drive is still an experimental tool. There's still a number of limitations of the file-system (such as total filename size must be less than 65 characters). Since the tool hooks up with the free Gmail Service provided by Google, changes in the Gmail system may break the tool's ability to function. I cannot guarantee that files stored in this manner will be accessible in the future.
GMail Drive v1.0.11 - download site #1 (Softpedia)
GMail Drive v1.0.11 - download site #2 (Filehippo)
installation :
  • Extract the ZIP file to a temporary folder.
  • Run the Setup application.

Nokia's Alternative to iPhone

Okay, it's not really a phone -- but Nokia's open source N800 tablet has a lot of great things going for it, not least of which is it's $100 cheaper than the iPhone and better still, it's not part of the AT&T network.

If you can get past the fact that it is not a phone (or already have a perfectly good cell phone), here are some features that might sway you to a) get over your iPhone envy and, b) purchase a device that some believe outperforms and outfeatures the iPhone:
  • Excellent 802.11 and Bluetooth radios.
  • Razor-sharp 4.1", 800x480, 225 pixel/inch color touchscreen.
  • Built-in stereo speakers.
  • 640x480 Webcam.
  • FM receiver.
  • USB 2.0 connectivity.
  • Two full-size SD card slots with a supported capacity of 2GB each.
  • A fast CPU (330MHz).
  • 128MB RAM.
  • 256MB Internal Flash.
  • Slated to get mobile WiMAX next year.
  • USB and line-in interfaces to record and playback podcasts.
  • Supports Flash 9 and Skype Internet calls which allow users to better browse YouTube videos, play online flash games, and make free Internet calls to other Skype-enabled devices.
  • Optional equipment: Nokia navigation kit to use the N800 as a navigation device.
Since the N800 is open source, there are many third party applications which extend its usefulness and fun factor, such as:

Pidgin - full-featured internet messaging client, with AIM, MSN, Yahoo and Jabber support
Canola - media player with network streaming
FBReader - e-book reader
Claws Mail - full-featured email client
Obscura Photo Manager

Other than the killer light touch screen on the iPhone, the N800 has all the right stuff. What do you think? Would you rather have an iPhone or geek out with an N800?

Split large file and put htem back together with G-Split

Have a large file that you need to send to a friend, but don't feel like using YouSendIt or a similar service to get around your email provider's file attachment size limits?

For years, folks have been posting enormous files on Usenet (or storing them on floppy disks) by dividing them up into tiny portions using applications like HJSplit. The problem is that you need to use the same application to put Humpty Dumpty back together again. So if you're trying to send home movies of the kids to your mother over email, you'd better be sure she knows how to use HJSplit if she wants to watch them.

GSplit is a bit more user friendly, since it doesn't require the recipient to install any software. GSplit creates an executable file that will put all of the pieces back together. The program has a few other nifty features as well:
  • Supports batch file splitting (select a few files to split and walk away from your computer for a while)
  • Option to integrate with Windows Explorer allowing you to split files through a right-click context menu
  • Split files by choosing the number of pieces or the size of each piece
Oh yeah, and did I mention that GSplit is free?

Yahoo is kickstarting a social network

Social networks are huge, and Yahoo knows this, that's why they have been working hard to develop the next level of social networks, KickStart.

Yahoo! KickStart is aimed at matching college students with relevant employers. This new service will give users a profile page where they can post a resume similar in style to LinkedIn. The companies listed in the service can then start up groups which users can join, start a discussion and hopefully get hired.

The service is still in a concept only phase, and might never make it to launch. Sounds like it could defiantly be a good way for students to enter the job market, we hope something comes out of this study.

The kids like fashion and pretty much anything to do with clothes, so why not give it to them. Gphone is coming !!!!

And the rumors keep rolling in on Google's phone development. This magical device that will be host to Google's powerful services like Gmail and Search while on the go. This time a person inside HTC has confirmed the development of the device.

The rumors specify that the Gphone will be shipping from Taiwan, and is scheduled to launch Q1 of 2008. The team at Google has been going over the current 20 HTC models on the market and finalizing its handset design. Gphone will have a specially built version of Google Maps, just as the iPhone does, with built in GPS compatibility. Previous reports stated that the device would not have GPS, and that it would support both 3G and EDGE platforms. Gmail and Calendar will be present, with Google Talk becoming part of the phone in a VoIP mode. As for the operating system on the Gphone, the insider said it would use Windows Mobile 6, however some think that a Linux OS would be more realistic. As for price, there have been buzzing's that the device would stay in the range of only $100. Will it be unlocked? We will have to wait and see, but chances of that are fairly slim.

ORKUT's NEW LOOK

Not a lot has been said lately about Google's social network Orkut. Every once a while there is a story or two about government officials trying to shut it down, or about how it's been lacking in development, but Google does have plans for it.

A new design is scheduled, and it looks very fresh. The Orkut design team hasn't stated when it will be completely rolled out, but they have said that randomly selected groups of users will start to see changes. Its about time things started moving at Orkut, Google has a potential (Facebook) goldmine with this, and they have really been letting it slide. Ok, so it's big in Latin America, but what about North America, Europe and the rest of the world?

How to enable Hibrnate option

While shutting down when u see 3 options "shut down ,stand by, restart" :press shift key to see hibernation option

When you "Turn off computer", you might see that you won't get the option for Hibernate
Well the simple thing is that you need to enable that, now how to enable that?
I will tell you step by step, here it is.

1. Click Start and go onto Control Panel.
2. In Control Panel, open Power Options.
3. In that window click on Hibernate Tab(If you don't see the Hibernate tab, your computer does not support hibernation).
4. Tick "Enable Hibernation", and your hibernation will be enabled.
5. If still you don't see the option when you click on "Turn off computer", then press the shift key and then see that, "Stand by" option will change to "Hibernate".
6. If still it doesn't comes up then just press the "H" key and then it will start hibernating.

Hibernation is very good process where you can not only save power
But also good for laptops where you needn't to save data every time, just hibernate and then the same window will open up next time.

Make folder Invisible

Well ever wondered, how can you make a folder invisible without even using any kind of softwares.
We do have an answer to that, now do the following and see the result.

  1. Create a new Folder.
  2. Rename it to "ALT+0160". (Don't type that in, in fact when the name is highlighted, the you need to rename it)
  3. The folder name would become NIL. There would be no name for the Folder you created.
  4. Now go on to the properties of the folder and you will find some icons without nay kind of symbol.
  5. Select that and you will see that your folder will now be invisible.

Try this out, Its really good.

Why a folder cannot be named as "CON"

Whenever you create a new folder then you cannot rename it as "CON". every wondered Why?

well the simple reason behind it is that, Windows have reserved some names that cannot be used to name the folders. these names are used only by windows only.

not only these u can try some more words given below.

The following reserved device names cannot be used as the name of a file or folder:

CON, PRN, AUX, NUL, COM1, COM2, COM3, COM4, COM5, COM6, COM7, COM8,
COM9, LPT1, LPT2, LPT3, LPT4, LPT5, LPT6, LPT7, LPT8, and LPT9.

Those names are reserved cause they are 'DOS' device names.
DOS device names are reserved words, and cannot be used as folder or file names.
